Citi Bike Equity & Community Engagement

Reflecting on how Citi Bike has redefined community and continued to advocate for equitable transportation in a momentous 2020.

Looking back at our community impact in 2020

At Citi Bike, equity means a transportation system designed to increase access, comfort, and usage of bike share within historically underserved communities. We achieve our equity goals via community engagement, building strong, inclusive relationships with the local government, local leaders, advocacy groups, nonprofits, and other community members. Together, we’re creating pathways for Citi Bike to become a valued community resource.

We expanded Citi Bike stations into socially and economically diverse communities during COVID-19, giving more people access at a time when safe transportation was increasingly essential. Our team is committed to caring for our communities and continuing to serve as a resource.

We also held virtual town halls in multiple languages, introduced a first-ride-free initiative with Healthfirst to tackle barriers to access, and cultivated our community through local events and partnerships. And we welcomed a new cohort into a pair of programs, offering funding via Community Grants and free rides to local nonprofits via Partner Keys.
